Inaugurated in 1976 by His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed AI Qasimi, the late Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) International Airport is celebrating thirty five years of its existence. Over the years the airport has been running secure, safe and efficient operations, and it has registered steady growth in passengers, cargo and aircraft movements.
Located eighteen kilometers from the city, the airport is not only modern with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities but also boasts a 3,760 meters long runway capable of handling the largest aircraft currently in service.
Being strategically located between the East and the West, RAK Airport serves as an important hub to travelers from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.
RAK Airport is currently undergoing significant redevelopment to further assist the Emirate’s growth plans including increasing terminal capacity by 140% and adding 7 new departure gates. In addition, RAK Airport will further enhance and develop airfield facilities such as new hangars, an aviation training facility, fuel farm with numerous fuel suppliers, a bespoke airport trade-free zone, MRO facility and new cargo terminal.
