Introduction to RAK

Located in the northern part of the emirates, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) is the fourth largest of the seven emirates that form the United Arab Emirates. Ruled by H.H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Oasimi since 1948, RAK is endowed with enormous resources, and with vast reserves of raw materials. RAK's geographic location, at the approach to the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf region of the Middle East, places it at the crossroads of international maritime traffic.

Under the guidance of the Crown Prince H.H Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the RAK government has embraced the concept of free enterprise as a vehicle for progress and development. The government is proactive in its approach for attracting foreign investments by creating an incentive based environment and a suitable climate for investment. The Emirate registered a GDP growth of 18.1% in 2005.

RAK offers excellent investment opportunities in diverse ever-growing economic areas.

The following sectors offer attractive investment avenues:

  1. International maritime related industries and services, including maintenance and fabrication works for the shipping sector, catering to regional and international market requirements.
  2. Warehousing, cold stores, transport and distribution services of foodstuffs and commodities, packaging for local and re-export purposes.
  3. Tourism projects and promotion. Ras Al Khaimah has tremendous potential in the tourism sector which is all set to become the sunrise industry in the Emirate. Its unique natural resources including hot mineral springs, mountains, sand dunes and picturesque locations and greenery provide attractive investment opportunities.
  4. Mining, minerals exploration, extraction and quarrying projects.
  5. Agro-industries related investment areas (food industry and dairy production).
  6. The establishment of RAK Free Trade Zone, which offers full ownership, full exemptions from tax and commercial levies and 100 % repatriation of capital and profits, has been a major milestone in attracting global investors.
